How Lavender Changed My Mornings.
Every night it is usually the same with me. I wake up in the morning feeling tired and groggy; overall, I feel like I haven’t slept for years.
I have a pretty high-strung personality so perfecting a good night’s sleep was something that I didn’t think was possible. This has been my lifestyle for many years, and I have just been able to deal with it.
When I was introduced to essential oils, people kept raving about the aroma and power of lavender when it comes to getting a good night’s sleep.
First of all, lavender is one of the gentlest essential oils. Don’t let its flowery fragrance fool you – it has some real power under the hood. While many enjoy the calming aroma, there are others that use lavender for its antiseptic, antitoxic, antifungal, and anti-infectious properties.
The uses of lavender are extensive. I have heard of people using lavender for acne, allergies, and burns. I have heard of people boasting of its effectiveness when it comes to dandruff, diaper rashes, and nausea. It’s a widely used product that has had great success.
I am one that is always skeptical when it comes to others’ success, but I decided to give it a try to see if I could find some relief with my sleeping dilemma.
I purchased a diffuser and properly followed the steps on the box. I filled the diffuser with water, added the necessary drops, and turned it on and waited. Now, a watched pot never boils – I am told. As I laid in bed waiting for lavender’s super power to kick in, I found that I never did feel one bit sleepy, tired, or even that it calmed me down enough to go to sleep.
Herein lies my problem. I diffused lavender with the expectation for it to work right away, and was disappointed with the time it took to be effective. I was so eager for it to work that I think I fought against its usefulness.
A couple of days later I set up the diffuser again very nonchalantly and crawled into bed. I had no expectations this time – in fact, I already had decided that lavender just doesn’t work. This time I fell asleep faster and when I woke up, I felt extremely refreshed and feeling good.
Now, I am lovin’ Lavender! It’s a part of my nightly routine that is here to stay.
